HUNGER NO: Empower 28 Women to Feed Families Through Farming

The Vision

In the heart of Bissau, Guinea-Bissau’s capital, a group of 28 widows and single mothers in the community of São Paulo has taken a brave step to fight hunger — not just for themselves, but for their 128 family members.

They are part of a Cooperativa Modelo called “Hunger NO,” working to grow fresh, local produce and provide sustainable food and income through horticultural farming.

Despite extreme poverty and harsh conditions, these women are determined to create a better future for their children. Now, they need your help to sustain and grow their efforts.

What They Grow

  • 🍅 Tomatoes
  • 🥬 Lettuce
  • 🥦 Cabbage
  • 🌶️ Pepper
  • 🧅 Onion
  • 🌽 Corn
  • 🌿 Beans
  • 🥔 Potatoes
  • 🍠 Cassava
  • 🥕 Beetroots
  • 🥒 Cucumbers
  • 🧄 Garlic, Carrots, Kale, Turnips, Parsley, & more

With 10,000 square meters of land and a strong will to fight hunger, the São Paulo women are doing their best — but tools, fertilizers, and clean water remain major barriers.

💧 Immediate Needs

To scale their work, the women urgently need:

  • 🧰 Farming Tools
  • 🌿 Fertilizers
  • 🐛 Pesticides

🚰 Urgent Infrastructure

Installation of a clean water well for washing produce and irrigation.
Currently, the women rely on dirty water sources, which poses a risk to both crop safety and their health. A clean well would improve product quality and allow access to better markets.
