Community Sao Paulo

Community São Paulo is located in the capital city of Bissau, Guinea-Bissau, within the neighborhood of São Paulo. It is made up of 28 widowed and single mothers who came together with a shared vision: to invest in horticultural production as a means to feed their families and fund their children’s education. Despite facing immense challenges and extreme poverty, these determined women have taken a bold step toward self-sufficiency and community resilience. Currently, they support approximately 128 family members through their agricultural efforts.
At present, the group cultivates basic horticultural crops such as tomatoes, lettuce, cabbage, chili peppers, and onions. With limited resources but strong determination, they are now looking to expand their production to include staple and nutrient-rich crops like corn, beans, potatoes, cassava, and beetroot. Their ambition also includes a diverse variety of vegetables and herbs such as carrots, garlic, parsley, kale, alfalfa, turnips, cucumbers, and traditional crops like kiabo-candja.
This community initiative urgently needs investment and support to sustain and grow their efforts. Their rallying cry—HUNGER NO—reflects both their immediate struggle and their unwavering hope for a better, food-secure future.
